“Wired” Primary Article

The editor provided the copy text for this article (and the others in the series), the inline illustrations, and the parent size of the page (9 x 9.75 inches). All else was up to the designer.

Design Brief

I decided early on to leave as much white space as possible — no background images, odd color overprints, none of that.

Emphasis for pull quotes is done by blocking out lines in red and then reversing the type. The key colors for this article are the six primary and secondary colors.

Headlines: Bembo. Body text: Veljovic. The deck is set in Helvetica. Pull quotes at the top of the two-page spread are in Futura Condensed. Blocked pull quotes in the body are in Helvetica.

Illustrations are colorized in Photoshop with complementary colors in harmonious proportions. The illustrations are design icons as well as communicating information.
